About The Designation In the employee benefits and compensation field, the oldest and most respected professional credential is the CEBS - the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist. The Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBSŪ) designation is awarded to individuals who complete the required number of CEBS examinations, meet the pre-certification standards, and agree to abide by the Principles of Conduct. CEBS was established in 1977 through a partnership of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. The International Foundation, the largest educational organization in the employee benefits field, is responsible for the overall administration of the program. The Wharton School, one of the preeminent business schools in the U.S., oversees academic content and standards. Curriculum Candidates must pass an examination for the following six required courses and two elective courses to earn the CEBS designation: Required Courses
If you hold the Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation or have completed any of (HS312, HS325, HS326, HS328) through the American College, you may be able to exempt two of the courses above. Examination Requirements Each exam is a two-hour, 100 question, computer-administered exam; a pass grade is based on scoring approximately 70% on the examination. Instructions for taking an exam will be mailed with your enrollment materials. National exams are given throughout the year at local testing centers, with your results provided immediately upon the completion of your exam. The examination application fee is $295, and payment of the examination application fee establishes eligibility for a 3-month period (quarter) of testing. A formal certificate is mailed automatically upon passing the required examinations for the designation. If you receive a non-passing grade for a CEBS exam, you may reapply for the exam at the reduced fee of $135. You may retake the exam during the same testing quarter or a future testing quarter. Additional Requirements Candidates are not required to meet any experience or educational requirements as a prerequisite for pursuing the CEBS designation. Continuing Education Requirements Certificants are not required to complete continuing education (CE) requirements to keep their designation active.
